Theme Parks and Entertainment

The U.A.E. is quickly becoming an entertainment hub for the Middle East region and is home to internationally renowned theme parks and roller coasters. Ferrari World in Abu Dhabi boasts the fastest roller coaster in the world and Wild Wadi Waterpark in Dubai is the only themed amusement park in the U.A.E. Dubai is also home to some of the largest shopping malls in the world featuring an indoor ski slope, world-class shopping, and an elevator ride to the top of the tallest building in the world. Furthermore, the annual Formula 1 Etihad Airways Grand Prix on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi is the nation’s largest sporting and social event of the year. Last year, in addition to the always-exciting race day, performers such as Prince, Kanye West, and Lincoln Park displayed their talents on stage for a crowd of thousands.

Opportunities for U.S. companies include: construction and design contracts, a developed entertainment infrastructure, and an open business environment. There are various Free Trade Zones (FTZ) dedicated solely to the entertainment industry. For example, Abu Dhabi’s Two Four 54 is an FTZ that offers turn-key solutions for entertainment companies looking to enter the U.A.E. market. There are no partnership restrictions within Two Four 54, lessened tax obligations, and it is ideally placed to act as a hub for the greater M.E.N.A. region. Also, local entertainment companies often partner with U.S. businesses for promotion throughout the Middle East. For example, in January 2010, Flash Entertainment acquired a 10% stake in the popular Ultimate Fighting Championship franchise.
