Emirates National Grid (ENG)

As indicated earlier, ADWEA has increasingly been called upon to assist the other emirates in meeting their power and water demand.  ADWEA currently exports roughly 1 gigawatt (GW) of power to the other emirates, including 400 MW to DEWA, 200 MW to SEWA and 365 MW to FEWA.  Pending the identification of additional primary fuel sources and the conclusion of appropriate commercial arrangements, these amounts may increase significantly in coming years.  Current and future trade in power between emirates is made possible by the Emirates National Grid.

The ENG project was launched by the UAE Ministry of Energy with the purpose of enhancing integration between the various electricity and water authorities in the UAE, each of which contributed proportionately to the capital investment required to build the ENG.
